As an innovate art form, performance art has become a way of opposing capitalism (since most works cannot be sold) and a method for artists to present their works with their bodies. As the body responds to commands from the brain, performance art is also interpreted as a practice of concepts. In addition, many situations occur randomly throughout the performance; no one can anticipate the movements of the body or the response from the audience. All bodily movements are transformed into incidents that express the essence of the human body, whether internally or externally, understandings of the bone and flesh, or even the liquid components of the body and its excretion. The body is a representation of the artist. Performance art in Taiwan started earlier than China and has a rebellious nature against the social system. This workshop designed by Watan Wuma allows participants to witness how artists use their bodies as vehicles for personal expressions through close-range teachings, performance, and evaluations. Participants will be able to examine and reflect on issues using bodily expressions by noticing the performance of artists and admiring the different movements that transcend the physical capacity, forming a new world filled with magical sensations.
