Police Officer Ku, on an early morning operation to apprehend a suspect, leads an armored police force to break up a criminal ring. They capture criminal Wai, who is wanted on charges of armed robbery, along with his partner Ta-Shun and other members of his gang. Only Shu-An, a girl of mixed heritage, escapes by jumping out of a window, breaking her leg in the process. A young photographer, Hsiao-Chiang who happens to be passing by takes her to the hospital. Returning home from the hospital, Shu-An’s mother forces her to stay at home. She starts to make prank calls out of boredom. One call connects her to a woman named Chou Yu-fen. Shu-An fraudulently claims to be the girlfriend of Chou Yu-fen’s husband who is now pregnant and wants to negotiate a settlement with Chou Yu-fen.
Chou Yu-Fen had been a capable career woman before marrying Li Li-Chung, but gave up her career to have a child. In the end she did not bear a child and became bored, which prompted her to take up writing. But writing proved challenging for Chou Yu-Fen, and she became trapped in the struggle of it. Her husband, Li Li-Chung is a well-behaved, law-abiding person working in a laboratory at a big hospital. He is content with the current situation and has no ambitions. Chou Yu-Fen’s former boss Chen Wei-Pin has seeks her out to convince her to resume her career. Chou Yu-Fen’s lack of confidence in her writing coupled with the damage done to their marriage from the prank phone call incites Chou Yu-Fen to move out and live on her own, to give new thought to her future.
